Epidemiology and Control of Notifiable Animal Diseases

Effective prevention and control programs must take into account the characteristics of the host including potential reservoirs , the pathogen e.

The need for informing those programs has led to the adoption of a wide range of approaches to address the risk posed by specific pathogens in different countries, and at the same time similar strategies have yielded very different results in different regions.

This Topic will serve as an update on the availability and current knowledge of potential approaches for control and prevention of notifiable diseases such as tuberculosis, brucellosis, foot-and-mouth, bluetongue, classical and African swine fever, bovine leukosis, bovine viral diarrhea, West Nile virus or avian influenza under different epidemiological field conditions.

Other reportable diseases in a given region may also be of interest for this Research Topic. Contributions from official veterinary services, or using data collected by veterinary services, aimed at demonstrating the use of epidemiological tools in the implementation or evaluation of prevention and control programs are encouraged. Important Note : All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements.

Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review. With their unique mixes of varied contributions from Original Research to Review Articles, Research Topics unify the most influential researchers, the latest key findings and historical advances in a hot research area! Keeping livestock healthy: disease controls and prevention

The livestock industry is extremely important to the economy of Oklahoma and includes not only commercial producers of meat or milk, but also purebred breeders and small producers with a few animals. The success of any type of livestock operation is closely related to the disease level of the animals. Losses due to disease originate in many ways. Some are obvious, such as death, medication costs, and condemnations at the processing plant. Others are sometimes less obvious, such as poor growth, poor production, poor feed conversion, and downgrading.

Animal diseases that people can catch are called zoonoses. Many diseases affecting humans can be traced to animals or animal products. You can get a disease directly from an animal, or indirectly, through the environment. Farm animals can carry diseases. If you touch them or things they have touched, like fencing or buckets, wash your hands thoroughly. Adults should make sure children who visit farms or petting zoos wash up as well.

fective control of ticks is necessary for the control of the disease but this will require spondents indicated that they have experienced FMD among their livestock primarily cattle. Handbook on animal diseases in the tropics (third edition).
