Listeria monocytogenes as one of the most important pathogen in public health concerns is transmitted through consumption of contaminated food. The pathogen has been considered as a potential source of contamination of raw milk and dairy products. This research was aimed to investigate prevalence of L.

In the present study milk samples 50 each from cow, buffalo, market and mastitic milk were collected from Hyderabad. Among the isolated presumptive Listeria spp. Furthermore, the pathogenicity was investigated in rabbit and mice through Anton and inoculation tests, respectively. The organism produces keratoconjunctivitis in rabbit while it causes death and presence of necrotic foci in liver, spleen and kidneys of mice. Listeria monocytogenes was found sensitive to ampicillin, chloramphenicol, ciprofloxacin, gentamycin and kanamycin. This is a preview of subscription content, access via your institution.
Listeria monocytogenes in milk and dairy products
Rydygier in Bydgoszcz, Bydgoszcz, Poland Correspondence skowron wp. Keywords : Listeria monocytogenes , biofilm formation , drug susceptibility , bacteria transmission , virulence genes frequency. Citation Information : Polish Journal of Microbiology. Listeria monocytogenes is the etiological factor of listeriosis. The main source of these organisms is food, including dairy products. The aim was to determine the multiple correlations between the drug susceptibility, virulence genes VGs , and biofilm formation on silicone teat cups of milk-borne and human L.
Listeria monocytogenes is among the most food-borne pathogens. It has the ability to grow over a range of temperature, including refrigeration temperature. Foods kept in refrigerator more than the prescribed period of time create an opportunity for the occurrence of Listeria monocytogenes. As this review shows, the prevalence of L. Inadequate temperature and faults in technology during pasteurization can be the disposing factors for the presence of the organism in dairy products. The organism, on the other hand, has been found to be resistant to those commonly known antibiotics that have human and veterinary importance, namely, ampicillin, Tetracycline, and chloramphenicol, streptomycin, erytromycin, penicillin G.

It causes listeriosis, a serious infectious disease which occurs as consequence of consumption of food contaminated with this pathogen bacterium.
